To understand the basic roulette rules, you should first know about the roulette wheel. A roulette wheel consists of 37 or 38 red and black numbered slots. American roulette wheels have 38 slots, while European wheels have 37. This is because of the zero slots, which are green. European roulette wheels have a single zero slot, while American wheels have both a zero and a double zero. Roulette is played by spinning the wheel—a ball travels around the roulette wheel as it spins, and when it stops the ball lands in one of the slots and the winners are declared. If the roulette ball lands on a zero slot, all bets are returned to the players; however, if it lands on a double zero the bets are collected by the casino. For this reason, many roulette players prefer European wheels because the house advantage is lower. You can find a variety of European roulette wheels at Club World Casino.

The roulette gambling rules for placing bets are fairly simple, especially when compared to other casino games. You can place a roulette bet on any single number - this is called a straight bet. Single number bets pay out the highest at 35:1. Split bets are bets on two adjacent numbers with a 17:1 payout. A street bet, with an 11:1 payout, goes on a horizontal line of three numbers; a corner bet on a block of four numbers pays 8:1. You can also place a line bet on six numbers, a column bet on one of the three vertical columns on the roulette table, or a dozen bet on one of three groups of numbers: low (1-12), middle (13-24) or high (25-36). Even bets are the simplest roulette bets to place. These are either even or odd, red or black, or low (1-18) or high (19-36). Even bets pay out at 1:1 odds.

There are other more specialized roulette rules that some casinos follow. For instance, there is the “En Prison” rule that involves zero roulette wheel outcomes, and the “La Partage” rule, which is similar to the en prison rule.
